Favre-orite Option, Brett’s Just Waiting For That Phone Call

Seriously football isn’t the same without the melodrama that follows #4

Brett Favre has said he is willing but will anybody give him that phone call?

I’ll tell you 3 teams that should and why

Have you heard about this? Brett Lorenzo Favre may be looking to make on final comeback to the NFL! Good ol’ number 4, or Judas as some Packers fans refer to him, has said that he is willing to listen if the right team gave him a call. It is difficult to determine whether or not this is Brett Favre’s camp leaking information or the Evil Empire leaking a story to turn sports reporting into more of a mockery. There is no doubt that both have been ecstatic about the recent coverage because there’s no story better in sports for the last 5 years than if Brett’s going to retire, come out of retirement, or send pictures of his dick while wearing bright orange Crocs.

Yes, the two sides who are reporting on the story may be doing so in their own best interest, maybe Brett got sick of shooting Wrangler, Snapper, insert hillbilly product here commercials. The problem is that Brett’s only passes in the past few weeks have probably come in one of those shoots, looping the old pigskin through a tire like a good ol’ southern boy should. There are so many people who ask why?!?!? But I ask Why the fuck not? There are at least 3 teams that could use the 42 year old gunslinger, I mean hell former Favre back-up 41 year old Mark Brunell still has a job.

People are going to remember the silver fox’s quick decent from NFL glory and his unprecedented 2010 season with the Minnesota Vikings. Yet he is also just one season away from his greatest statistical season of his career, connecting on 363 of 531 passes, throwing for 4202 yards, 33 TDs and 7 INTs, albeit he did throw a patented Favre across the body interception to the Saints in the NFC Championship that most purple fans will never forget. He finished 2010 with a 5-8 record, missed his first game since Jesus Christ’s death and threw 19 interceptions to just 11 TDs while passing for only 2509 yards.

I however will make the argument that it was more the Vikings offense that was lacking, with a poor offensive line that couldn’t protect a now statuesque QB. Favre didn’t have a healthy Sidney Rice and was forced to rely on a migraine riddled Percy Harvin and his second best option in the passing game was Bernard Berrian. TE Visanthe Shiancoe had missed a ton of time to injury and realistically there just wasn’t much around Favre and it makes me wonder if he still has anything left in the tank. I do know that there are 3 teams with a chance to make the Playoffs that should warrant at least a phone call to Favre’s agent Bus Cook.

Who are those 3 teams? The Kansas City Chiefs, the Chicago Bears and the Houston Texans. First of all if anyone saw the Chiefs victory over the Bears it was mostly due to a Hail Mary that was thrown by QB Tyler Palko, batted down by Bears LB Brian Urlacher but hit right into the hands of RB Dexter McCluster. The Chiefs went on to win that thrilling game 10-7 and Palko continued to show his inept ability to lead an NFL offense. In the 3 games that Palko has started he is 64-102 with 601 yards, 1 TD, which was complete bullshit, 6 INTs, 1 fumble and has been sacked 6 times. Are you going to try and tell me that Brett Favre couldn’t do better? Seriously go hide in Jerry Sandusky’s basement dressed as a 10 year old Peter Pan and do everyone a favor by never watching football again. Did I mention that the Chiefs are welcoming the Green Bay Packers to Arrowhead Stadium on December 18 in week 15?

The Chicago Bears also play the Packers in their final 4 games, week 16 in Lambeau and you can’t tell me the ego in Brett Favre wouldn’t like to knock that cocky Aaron Rodgers fella down a peg or two. Favre would absolutely love to battle an undefeated Packers squad and give yet another division rival the ability to punish Packers GM Ted Thompson for making what turned out to be the best decision for the franchise, but Favre will never see it that way. He was pushed out of town and he wants a shot at redemption because nothing would hurt more than having Favre come out of retirement to end the Packers greatest winning streak in franchise history. The Bears currently have Caleb Hanie starting games and he seems to be a slightly better option than Tyler Palko. Hanie is 29-60, with 387 yards, 2 TDs, 6 INTs, 1 fumble and has been sacked 11 times. The offensive line is horseshit in Chicago and that wouldn’t fare well for Favre but he could come back, beat the Packers and make the Playoffs. I ask why not?

The final and probably best option for Favre would be to end up in Houston playing for the Texans who have lost starting QB Matt Schaub, only to lose back-up QB Matt Leinart the following game and have now turned to rookie QB T.J. Yates. Houston is 9-3 perched atop the AFC South and will likely win their first division title in franchise history but would they be better with Favre? Houston has an incredible offensive line, one of the best RBs in the league, similar to AP in ’09, with a plethora of options in the passing game including two solid players at Favre’s favorite position, TE. Yates came into the game early when Leinart was lost for the season due to a broken collarbone and went on to start this week.

Yates however is just 20-40 for 258 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs but 2 fumbles. Favre could give the Texans a better chance in the playoffs than a rookie QB from the University of North Carolina. Besides wouldn’t you rather see Favre throw a few interceptions and lose a playoff game rather than Yates? Or what if he was able to push them deep into the playoffs maybe even the Super Bowl, possibly against the 18-0 Packers??? That would be the ultimate scenario for Favre and for football fans. I think that any of these three options would be better than Favre twiddling his thumbs in Mississippi. If football with Favre is wrong, I don’t want to be right and would like to see the old guy give it one more whirl but that’s not likely.
