Taking care of business, Marquette beats Jacksonville 88-56

The Marquette Golden Eagles took the floor on Monday night looking to defeat the Jacksonsville Dolphins and go undefeated in November.  After the 1st half that featured the Dolphins making many open 3 pointers and keeping the score close, the Golden Eagles distanced themselves and pushed the lead to 20 + by midway through the 2nd half.

Some notes from the upper deck

  • 1st half Marquette struggled to guard against the 3 pointer.  Later in the season, they will need to clean up their slides and help defense as Big East teams will be able to make 3s at a higher rate than the Dolphins.
  • Need to control the boards more – although the bigs were not playing as much. I believe the 2 teams had the same about of rebounds, which shouldn’t happen in this type of a mismatch
  • Vander Blue is developing into an all around stud.  He is developing a quick hand on defense to pry away the ball(4 steals), while also coming up with some nice passes in transitions leading to easy hoops (7 assists).
  • Jae had  nice nice from beyond the arc going 4/7.  Love to see that he is continuing to take the open look and drain them.
  • DJO has a quiet night while still dropping in 19 points.
  • Todd Mayo looks to be a real scoring threat for the future as he just looks so natural on offense.
  • Gardner had a bad game.  Wasn’t on the floor a lot, not making a big impact.
  • Juan Anderson got into the game late. Think he is Buzz’s doghouse. Hustles his butt off while he was out there. Still needs work.
  • Jamil Wilson had the play of the night with an alley-oop from Jr Cadougan.

Now begins the countdown to the battle in Madison. Wisconsin basketball fans cannot wait.
