Marquette downs the Spartans from Norfolk St with 2nd half explosion

The Marquette Golden Eagles exploded for 59 points in the second half to beat the Norfolk St Spartan on Monday night 99-68.  While the score would lead you to believe this game was never close, there was a point in the 2nd half where Marquette’s lead was down to 12.  Scoring picked up and defense started getting stops, so Marquette wins big and for the box score watchers everything is OK.

Some Observations from the game…

  • Students were a no call no show.  After a great showing for the first game, the students barely filled the student section in the lower bowl. Sad.
  • Derrick Wilson’s arms are HUGE.  I will now nickname him WMD for the rest of the season for having those guns.
  • Vander Blue continues to impress me with his game.  Smooth in transition, solid defense, and tonight, I believe he drained an open 3 from the corner
  • Jamil Wilson played poorly in the first half , but had a much better 2nd half playing inside more.
  • Jamail Jones hit an early 3, but then was not heard from again
  • In garbage time, Todd Mayo showed his stroke with back to back 3s, and a nice layup.
  • Jae Crowder (25 pts) and DJO (24 pts) were solid again, and the big surprise on the night… Mr. Otule only 2 points.  Won’t win a lot of games in the Big East with him only scoring 2 points this year.
Lastly, I would like to thank the security guard in the section of the lower bowl I ended up in.  For the 2nd half of a very under attended game, there was no reason to kick out a group of attentive fans.  I thank you.
