The Marquette University Golden Eagles begin their season tonight (11/11/11) and look to repeat their success from last year.

Who will step up and lead the team?

How can you replace a fan favorite like Rob Frozena?

The Marquette University Golden Eagles begin their season tonight (11/11/11) and look to repeat their success from last year.  They will have a hard time replacing a harder worker and leader than Jimmy Butler but they have a few players who could audition for the role.  After a unpredictable run to the Sweet Sixteen last season, Marquette looks to build on their foundation Buzz Williams has laid down in his first few years and possibly challenge for a Big East title.  Some new additions to the team should help replace some of the points and rebounds from Jimmy, Joe and Dwight, but who can replace the cheers that Rob Frozena generated.

Departures

Jimmy Butler – Dripped leadership and sweat on the court every game during his senior year.

Joe Fulce – Hardworking rebounder who wasn’t afraid to pull the trigger on an open jumper as well.

Dwight Buycks – Ball handler with a sweet stroke

Robert Frozena – Fan favorite walk on

Additions

Todd Mayo – A guard who is a scoring threat in high school with good outside shot, questionable defense.

Juan Anderson – Long armed forward is one of those guys that can do a little bit of everything, but needs to build muscle.

Derrick Wilson – Another guard with good defense skills, but needs to work on his shot.

Jamil Wilson (Transfer) – Forward who was highly recruited out of high school and is rumored to be best ball player on the team in summer practices.

Jake Thomas – Walk on with a nice outside shot.

MUBB Season MVP

Darius Johnson Odom – As the main scoring threat, DJO will lead the team in scoring.  He will be that voice that drives the team on the floor.

MUBB Best player no one talks about

Junior Cadougan –Will quietly distribute the ball all year probably averaging 6 to 7 assists a game while only getting 4 to 6 points himself.  He will get the bigs involved and really be an extension of Buzz Williams on the floor

Most Improved Player during course of the year

Vander Blue – After an underwhelming freshmen year, Vander will find his place in the Big East this year.  Already showing a budding defensive skill set, he will be the lock down defender while also contributing on the offensive end.

Fan Favorite

With the exit of one Rob Fro-ze-na (Clap, Clap, Clap Clap Clap) the fans will rally behind their new favorite player, the man on the outside looking for an open 3 in those lopsided wins, Mr. Jake Thomas

When our season will end…

The season will end in the Sweet Sixteen again.  After over achieving last year and reaching the Sweet Sixteen, Marquette will reach the round of 16 again but fail to punch through to the Elite 8.

What keeps us coming back in 2012-2013

Outside of being fans of the game and team, the core players of Davante Gardner, Vander Blue, Jamil Wilson, Chris Otule and Junior Cadougan will leave fans highly anticipating the summer leagues and the 2012 Marquette Madness event.
